I just watched Beyoncé's Homecoming and I finished feeling so proud to be from the same state as her--proud of our culture, our diversity, our boldness (even if it's just a minor connection to her). Then, I fumble upon this video, which tells of how people are treated without dignity when they arrive to our state--even just for safety, like in the case with this video--and I felt ashamed to be from Texas. I went from being so proud to so ashamed in the matter of five minutes. I'm proud to be Texan, but I'm not proud of our Immigration policies. I've spent time through Central America, and have gotten a taste, but still can't even imagine what refugees of violence go through. I'm also proud to know people like Bunny Oliver who works on educational attainment for Hondurans, and Sandra Springer who work with Central American populations in Austin, Texas. and places like Casa Marianella.

en ESPAÑOL: Vi la película en Netflix sobre el concierto de "Homecoming" de Beyonce. Cuando terminé, me sentí orgullosa de ser Tejana-- como tenemos cultura, tenemos diversidad y tenemos una audacia. Después, vi este video sobre esta madre e hijo que huyeron de la violencia en Honduras. y cómo fueron tratados mal y de manera inhumana sin derechos cuando llegaron a la frontera, (donde he conocido gente para trabajar). Mi orgullo se convirtió en vergüenza, por ser de Tejas. Estoy orgullosa de ser Tejana, pero no estoy orgullosa de nuestras políticas de inmigración.
Estoy orgullosa para conocer Bunny Oliver y Sandra Springer por su trabajo con comunidades de Centroamérica, y lugares/proyectos como Casa Marienella.
