I learned so much in 2018 and I'm so thankful for all of the experiences I had and people that I've met. Here are 18 things that I've learned or have been confirmed in 2018:
1. Learning to drive on the left side of the road.
2. Time is more valuable than money. (At least for me)
3. Boundaries. You must set your own boundaries. Your time and your energy are yours-protect them.
4. I learned that saving money is sexy. (Appropriate word choice? No, but it really is! saving money is underrated!)
5. I've learned how much I appreciate working with great people. People with passion, humor, drive, critical thinking and wit.
6. People are generally good, but you can't depend on anyone but yourself.
7. How to hire a lawyer, electrician, plumber, contractor, firewood supplier, personal trainer, and cleaner.
8. How to not take business personally. Or anything personally for that matter, but I'm still working on that.
9. How to be the boss of people that are older than me, while balancing and respecting their experience and legacy.
10. Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth.
11. You can only control: a) how prepared you are and b) how you react to something.
12. Swahili and the Maasai language
13. Planks are better than crunches.
14. Moving to Tanzania confirmed the fact that Africa is diverse, talent is universal and opportunity is not, and that we are all in this together.
15. When it comes to money: money can make you happier or better adjusted to the world to a certain point. But after this point, you are no better off. This can be explained by an upside-down U parabola.
16. It's 2019, and many children still don't have access to primary school, and some girls are still sold into child marriage.
17. Automate your bills and diversify your investments.
18. Anything is possible. Really. Your life can take a complete turn around in just one year. Design the life you want. If you don't like something, see what you can do to change it, and actually do it. Try something new and take risks. Create it.
