365 HOURS OF YOGA ✨: Over the past year, I’ve committed myself to my yoga practice. During that time, I’ve moved, by myself, literally across the world to direct a school for 383 young Tanzanian children, because education is a proven tool towards healthier, stronger communities worldwide. This past November, I’ve took a few yoga classes at @africayogaproject Shine Center, in Nairobi, Kenya🇰🇪, which I first saw a video about several years ago. Ever since then I’ve seen how yoga can be a tool for empowerment.
Fast forward to a year ago, I needed to really change something in my life. I was stuck. I took a yoga class. And then another. And another. Through facing a challenge, setting many goals and work towards them, and actually achieving them, I’ve felt myself become empowered.🏄🏼♀️ To me, yoga and sustainable development work have two important and integral commonalities: The first is empowerment. The second is community. The premise behind the Africa Yoga Project of bringing yoga training to marginalized communities may sound silly to many in the US, but at its core, it’s really not about the yoga, it’s about growth, empowerment and community building.🌍 My lesson here is not necessarily to practice yoga—but do something to challenge yourself. Get out and grow🌱. Be a mindful and supportive member in your community, wherever you are.
